Programme Rationale
Agriculture continues to be the mainstay of the Ghanaian economy. However, the nation remains uncompetitive in the global market because of problems besetting the sector. There is the need to develop manpower capable of identifying the problems besetting the sector and finding solution to them. Also, human resource development must focus on people who can completely respond to current and emerging challenges in the agricultural sector, especially agricultural extension. The M.Phil programme in agricultural extension therefore seeks to develop competent personnel who can respond to current and emerging challenges in extension and function effectively in as professional practitioners in the field.
Programme Goals/Objectives
Goal
The overall goal of the programme is to produce post graduates with a good grounding in the theory and practice of Agricultural Extension and who are able to respond to the current and emerging challenges in extension.
Objectives
Candidates undertaking the programme will on completion have the capacity to:
- Identify problems besetting the agricultural sector;
- Respond to the emerging challenges in the extension component of agriculture;
- Plan, implement and evaluate agricultural extension programmes and projects;
- Engage in the formulation of agricultural development policies related to extension; and
- Design, conduct and communicate research in agricultural extension.
Programme Structure
Students will complete a total of 10 courses for a total of 30 credit hours in Year I. Year II will be devoted to research work.
